Amy L. Magnusson, M.D., is a staff physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Sharp Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital in San Diego.  She also is a staff physician in spinal cord injury services at VA San Diego Healthcare System in La Jolla; Medical Director for Learning Services, Southern California; and Medical Director of physical medicine and rehabilitation at CareMeridian in La Mesa and Escondido.

A native of Phoenix, Dr. Magnusson graduated from San Diego State University in 1988 with a degree in nursing sciences.  She earned an M.D. degree at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in 1997.

Dr. Magnusson interned at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Ill.; and served as a resident physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1998 to 2001.  From 2001 to 2012, she was a clinical instructor at the University of California San Diego Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Magnusson holds several certifications from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with subspecialties in Spinal Cord Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine.  She also is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, among many other professional associations.

Dr. Magnusson and Craig, her husband of 25 years, live in University City.  They have two children: Colin, 23, a graduate of Azusa Pacific University; and Claire, 20, a junior at Loyola Marymount University.  She enjoys travel, especially to Hawai’I for relaxing on the beach and snorkeling.  She volunteers with youth and community activities, including the Science Olympiad, and monitoring with the UCHS Biomedical Program.
